THE DA VINCI CODE GAME
REVIEWS OF WINIFRED'S MUSIC FOR THE DA VINCI CODE
"The orchestral, often frightening score helps set the atmosphere, which I've always said is imperative to any movie-based game. The epic soundtrack is in all honesty top-notch. Superb music." Gabe Boker, PC GameZone
"The music in The Da Vinci Code is quite solid. I found that the game really excelled in its accompanying musical score and does a brilliant job in capturing the eerie and mysterious mood of the unfolding story. It plays quietly in the background while you explore, before breaking out into a suspenseful chorus when more interesting sequences occur... it has flair worthy of a great blockbuster movie." Frank N., Da Game Boyz |
|
"The music and sound effects for The Da Vinci Code were, in my opinion, the best feature of the game. The music is appropriately eerie without being either over or understated, appropriate to the mood of the game. The timing of musical rise and fall also worked well." Jana Lee Stocks, Strategy Informer
"Right out of the box, the music in the "Da Vinci Code" stole the show! Composed by Winifred Phillips (who also did work on "God of War") the music brings you directly into the well known story of "The Da Vinci Code" and adds an element of mystery." Becky Young, Global Gaming League
"The music is excellent, suitably dark and soaring where appropriate and subtle yet menacing at other times." Gordon Alpin, Quandary
"A while ago I told you that a well-known composer would take care of the music for this game. That's audible, the music is really great. This is a strong point, I dare say this game's strongest point. Brilliant!" Anneleen, Fragland.net
"So I get a copy of this soundtrack for perusal. And since I work for a game music website, I thought it would be neat to write an article about the soundtrack. What a sporting thing to do! Except the thing started haunting me... It made an appearance in my dreams. I may be a musician myself, but I don't typically hear much of anything in my dreams, let alone music... Right away from the very first listening I could feel the fictionary world surround me. Any time you hear choirs you think of the angelic, or spiritual. This was no different, yet its underlying brooding nature made me feel there was more going on. Did I want to find out, and exactly what? So I listened to it at work, in the car, at home. The music was so ominous that it spooked my wife and started appearing in my dreams. I don't even remember what the dreams were but they were accompanied by this score. It just made a strange connection with me... Clearly a connection was made with Phillips' score and the fiction (of Dan Brown's novel) and that is part of the highest merit any soundtrack score can attain." Tony Porter, Music4Games
"The musical content of Winifred Phillips is of exceptional quality and gives a cinematic dimension to the game." Nikoletta Papatoli, Pathfinder (Greece)
"The game's score is haunting, ever-present. Love the soundtrack. Memories of Tomb Raider." Frank Ling, GamerNode
"Superb soundtrack!" Ronnie Hobbs, XBox GameZone
"The music is the best part of the game. It's orchestral, and fits the action perfectly. The music is excellent." Melissa "FoxyGamer" Niedringhaus, Game Helper
"The music is excellent, with choirs and orchestras setting just the right atmosphere for the game. Great music!" Jack Allin, Adventure Gamers
"Following her award-winning score for her first game God of War and then her equally deserving follow-up score for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, the multi-talented Winifred Phillips was asked by Collective Studios to score the Da Vinci Code game from 2K Games... So, what of the score? Well, first off I have to say that whereas Hans Zimmer's music for the film, beautiful though it may be, is pretty static, with surprisingly very little excitement to be had from a score to what is billed as a pretty exciting thriller, even in the more mysterious and suspenseful moments of Phillips' score, there is movement... a fine piece of contemporary action scoring. That's not to say that Phillips doesn't provide beautiful moments of liturgical scoring... much of the music is indeed propulsive, with some pretty menacing choir-driven moments." Jeff Hall, ScreenSounds
"The accompanying musical score does a brilliant job in capturing the eerie and mysterious mood of the unfolding story. It twinkles away quietly while you explore, before breaking out into a suspenseful chorus when more interesting sequences occur. When it sparks up while you hide in the shadows from a pair of guards for instance, the atmosphere and tension that it brings is definitely affecting." Andrew Macarthy, Ferrago
"Robust orchestrated tunes... The music is the savior of the game." Brian Huntley, The Joplin Globe
"The background music on the other hand, containing Gregorian Chants and other melodic chants, plunges you effortlessly into this mysterious quest." Delphine Lechat, Micromania (France)
"You'll love the atmospheric music." Dan Amrich, Games Radar
"It's the right kind of music... moody, atmospheric and decidedly creepy." Juan Castro, IGN
"The accompanying music lends a suitably ethereal atmosphere to proceedings. Sound: 9 out of 10." Jonathan Fildes, BBC News (UK)
"The music and sound are of excellent craftsmanship." Jihem, Jeuxvideo.com. (France)
"The ambient music is properly tense and sets the mood." JP Huth, Game Revolution
"(The Da Vinci Code videogame) includes a breath taking soundtrack from Winifred Phillips." Tanya Palta, MobileWhack
"Tremendous soundtrack, which adapts superbly to the mood and atmosphere of the game and which involves the player so much the better." NedzadHurabasic, Gamona (Germany)
"(The music) fits the mood of the story perfectly." Dan Ryckert, Lawrence.com
"Background music and scores complement the game well." Harris, ContactMusic.com
"Finely composed music which fits the theme well." NekroIncardine, WorthPlaying.com
"The music is cinematic and sounds good." Michael Hanning, Digital Entertainment News
"The soundtrack fits the mysterious atmosphere quite nicely." Tyler Whitney, Game Chronicles
"The game's score is wonderfully appropriate to the theme and feel of the book and movie and it's wonderfully cinematic at all the right moments... sets the mood perfectly." Angelina Sandoval, PS2 GameZone
"If there's any highlight to the game, it's the music... The pieces on the soundtrack are classical, almost monastic church music, like something you would hear on Easter or Christmas, which is especially fitting to the mood." Chris Freiberg, IDSNews.com
"Without a doubt, the best aspect of the game lies in the sound department. The music is a fantastic, orchestral score that really complements the subject and content of the game. Movie quality soundtrack!" Will Stanley, Deeko

CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY
REVIEWS OF WINIFRED'S MUSIC FOR CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY:
"The soundtrack couldn't fit the game any better if they tried. It provides the perfect atmosphere for the game, and the music really stands out. The game definitely provides one of the better audio experiences in a video game on the market today." Chris Wilson, Next Level Gaming
“A really good soundtrack. Music sounds moody and atmospheric where it should. Same goes for the oddball tunes within the factory. The music sounds very Danny Elfman-like." Juan Castro, IGN

"The music orchestration sounds straight out of the movie and fits with Tim Burton's terrifically twisted vision." Cyndy Threadgill, Console Gameworld
"In every chapter of the game, the music stands out and grabs your attention, and it's much appreciated." Jeremy Wood, Game XC
"It's the game's original score that wins big points here mostly because it does make the game feel like classic Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. It certainly is as good as the Danny Elfman score from the film and it certainly fits the game's style excellently... beautifully cinematic original score." Natalie Romano, Xbox GameZone
"I absolutely loved the soundtrack with its almost theme park-esque tones and suitably dramatic scores at just the proper moments... I found the game to be a joy to listen to. Superb score." Matt Litten, Bonus Stage
"The music is outstanding." Daniel Pelfry, Digital Entertainment News
“The music that Winifred Phillips had composed specifically for the video game is by far the best quality point of this game... the music is what keeps me coming back. Miss Phillips actually portrayed an audio equivalent to the amazing visuals in the game. In fact I would even say that her music would be better fitting in the film than in the game... Her use of the subtle changes in music reflected the gameplay perfectly as it becomes more emotional and the gameplay becomes harder, and lighter and more fluid when the gameplay becomes more carefree.” Shane Luis, GameSHOUT Radio Network
“Can you think of any movie-based games that have a soundtrack that can compare to the film? A soundtrack that can stand on its own? It may be the first time in the history of games, but Winifred Phillips has done it. Her dreamy hypnotic themes will fill your ears with visions of sugar plums dancing in your head. There's a certain amount of peacefulness in the music. It's got a classic sound that's only found in old movies and musicals... Spellbinding music from God of War composer Winifred Phillips. Her choral creations are as complex as they are entertaining. Players of all ages will be delighted by its deep yet whimsical presentation, filling ears with soothing sounds not commonly heard in movie-based games. Expertly written, brilliantly composed.
"Delicious compositions: Winifred Phillips makes "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" extra sweet... Once you hear the music you'll be salivating for a soundtrack release... (Winifred is) a musical genius. Her delightful, orchestral soundtrack turned "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" into a world of musical amazement."" Louis Bedigian, PS2 GameZone
